AFS Interview

Attended the AFS state level interview yesterday...
So you would be asking...
What is AFS? and why the hell i went for a interview on a school day??

AFS stands for American Field Service, started during World War 1
Now it organized culture exchange programs around the globe,
and guess what?? Malaysia also got take part in it..

So today's venue is at a JPS activity center at Seksyen 6, Shah Alam.
and well....i left home around 7am and only reach there around 8.20pm...
It was jamming the whole way...I still don't understand why my father...choose to go from Puchong..bypass Subang..

There were only around 40 students from various schools from the Petaling Perdana District..
and most of them came from Shah Alam and USJ schools.
The whole interview session wasn't what i was expecting, we were greeted and brief by AFS volunteers who went on the program before, we played games, shared experience, and hear their own stories.

They even divided us into 4 groups, and make us prepare a sketch in just 45 minutes
And well the first time in a group that was very productive,
everyone was throwing in ideas, thoughts, giving comments
and we keep improving the sketch a long the way,
the sketch was about 3 different people, eating Malaysian food, visiting Malaysian City's and House Opening..
Even though we didn't have enough time to prepare the last part, but we were able to pull it off..
haha~ the whole group was with peoples that know what they are doing...
What they should do...
Played some weird but very fun game, and meet a lot of people...haha...maybe this is better then going to far far away countries...

 Back to the interview...
The interview is conducted in another room, and they were 4 interviews doing simultaneously. And i was sent to the 3rd Table, and well....it was a Indian lady, the first thing she told me was...
"Your Form 5 right?"
"Yes"
"I'm sorry to inform you that the JENSYS program that you apply for will crash with your SPM, therefor you cannot attend that program.."
that was the first conversation......(I'm not sure, that's what i remembered)
Then she ask me to talk about myself and my family...
that's easy...(I think i suck at talking ABOUT myself....)
then....she asked me that is my parents ok with paying 11k
YES, you didn't read wrong 11K,
that will be my second option, living there for 2 months either Australia, Italy, China or Turkey..

she keep asking me, will my parents support or not...
i just keep saying "yes, yes, yes" even though i haven't clearly discussed with my family...
haizz..she keep saying about the consequences of back off the last minute,
then...

She started ask me to present our culture, what culture...
Sabah and Sarawak...
I was totally unprepared for something like that...
and i start talking nonsense...and well....talk about what i remember from Primary School Geography..
HOW THE HELL SOMEONE WILL REMEMBER THESE!!!
others are more lucky, their questions are more general..
like...Chinese Indian culture,
or what is the capital of Malaysia...
WHY I DON'T HAVE THOSE QUESTION!!!!

Then there is a reality check, which she ask about the situations that we may face over there...

then before she wanted to end the interview...she asked me to confirm with my parent using handphone that will they willing to pay for 11k if chosen...
well....i called my father and my father asked this:
"is it worth it", i said " will one", "then confirm la"
OMG~ it sure will be a experience of a lifetime...

Result...
Need wait till August...and well
I don't know my chances, but even this interview widen my view, and i learn a lot from it..
Even though, Its still in Malaysia.

The whole thing, ended at 12...and that's where I GOT A PROBLEM...
My father was busy so the plan was....
AFS-->Texi--->KTM-->KL
but there isn't any texi nor buses nearby..
was just walking
and thanked Joanne's Mom for being kind hearted and bring me along to Subang Jaya..
Thanks..XD

Thoughts......
Well, i don't know my chances...
but hay...at least i tried isn't it...
those that i meet today, was only a small portion of people that was apply for the programs, and even with this small number, they were really the elites in the elites. All  posses leadership and very outgoing. their academic won't be terrible to anywhere but.. even from talking you will started to think,
Why our school don't have these kind of culture??
They are not like those people you will meet in our school, but they are more outgoing and race for them isn't a problem. They have more manners and they know how to present themself, take on the responsibility, love to chit chat and will stay in the group
you won't see this in SK. Chinese with Chinese, won't mix with other ethics.

Maybe the ones i mat today are really the elites, but i also got a lot of things to learn from them....
And it really proven the point ,
that out there..
there are better one....
